Mine would have to be "The Little Deer."
In my opinion, it's up there with 'The Two Fridas" and "What The Water Gave Me," as her most touching paintings.

Re: Favorite Frida Painting
Sun, April 10, 2005 - 12:09 PMThose are great. I was going to get a little deer mousepad for work but the corporate world. Hey, I may do it anyway.
I think my favorites are My Dress Hangs There and The Broken Column. I also like the portrait she did for Lenin.
You realize after I log off I will have to go and look through the books and come up with more favorites.... Nice project.

Thu, December 8, 2005 - 5:12 PMThe Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth (Mexico), Me, and Senor Xolotl, 1949 and The Tree of Hope 1946
These two, to me, speak of the pain she endured as a result of her accident ... and her desire/ hope to be a "normal" woman without a broken back or the residual affects that disabled her ability to bear children. It's almost as though she visualizes herself in two different ways ... what was and what could have been (and then Diego became the person she babied in certain respects).

Re: Favorite Frida Painting
Sun, December 11, 2005 - 1:44 PMcurrently, my favorite painting is "El difuntito Dimas".
"What the Water Gave Me" is also an fine piece of work. Other favs include "Moses" and the Morillo portraits. In many of her self portraits I find that her ears appear to be a bit disproportionate.
& yeah, nice topic!

Re: Favorite Frida Painting
Wed, December 21, 2005 - 10:08 PMI like them all but the ones that spark my mind to life are:
My grandparent's, My parents, and I -family tree
the love inbrace of the universe
the things that touch me are the tie that bind, the roots, the veins, the unbilical.
I live with a man in cronic pain and I see how the expression can keep one centered.
Her work speaks to many levels. When I lost a child in miscarriage, when my friend got very ill, it was her art that ballanced out total depression, there is underlying hope within her paintings when you look below the surface of the shock value.
